ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlantic Coast Conference got a shake-up last night. Eighth-ranked North Carolina fell to Georgia Tech 84-to-77, meaning the Tar Heels missed a chance to hold on to a share of first place in the league following Virginia's win over Virginia Tech.
The loss gives the Tar Heels consecutive road game losses in the ACC for the first time in three years.
Thaddeus Young scored a career-high 25 points to lead the Yellow Jackets, and Anthony Morrow added 18 points. Brandan Wright had 22 points to lead North Carolina. Tyler Hansborough added 16 points and ten rebounds for the Tar Heels.
The closest North Carolina got in the second half was 77-to-73 on a pair of Hansborough's free throws with just under two minutes remaining.
