CHAPEL HILL (AP) -- University of North Carolina student body president Eve Carson is being remembered as a committed and caring student leader whose life ended tragically, and too early.
Students, faculty and others attended a memorial service Tuesday at the Dean E. Smith Center in Chapel Hill.
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Peggy Jablonski told the crowd that Carson was "very verbal" when the two first met after Carson was elected student body president. The 22-year-old Carson was fatally shot earlier this month.
Murder charges have been filed against 17-year-old Laurence Lovette and 21-year-old Demario Atwater, both of Durham.
Lovette is also charged with murder in the death of a Duke University graduate student.
