Pender County woman being honored at UNCW Thursday

A Pender County woman, whose mission is rescuing and rehabilitating sea turtles, is being honored Thursday at UNC-Wilmington. Jean Beasley, founder and director of the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Hospital, is being recognized as an Albert Schweitzer Honors Scholar. UNCW presents the award to someone from the region who exemplifies the interests of Albert Schweitzer. Beasley founded the rehabilitation center in 1997 in memory of her daughter's efforts to save sea turtles from extinction. She will receive the award Thursday at 12:30 in King Hall Auditorium at UNCW.
