Another big Azalea Festival announcement came Monday. The Azalea Festival Committee announced celebrities who will make an appearance this year. They include Nicholas Braun, who has appeared on several television shows and starred in two Disney original movies, and Joe Gallison, best known for his role as Dr. Neil Curtis on Days of our Lives. Gallison lives in Wilmington and was there for Monday's announcement. He said after years of enjoying the festival, he's excited to be a part of it. "We saw Tony Bennett, we've seen Natalie Cole and some of the shows. My wife always goes to the garden parties; she always looks forward to that. We love being in Wilmington. We've been here for 12 years and anything I can do to promote Wilmington and let other people know how great is it, I'm happy to do," he said. This year's Azalea Festival is April 1st through the 5th.

We used to get some actual celebrities for the festival. Also the Queen was either a soap star or a movie star. What happened? The last few years no one even knows who she is.

Real celebrities can’t make enough money coming here to make it worth their while. That is why you get people who no one has heard of or at the end of their career. There used to be some really big name at the Festival but here lately not so much. Maybe it’s time to rethink the process and try to get some better people in.
