Belles gather for tea before Azalea Festival

The Azalea Festival is right around the corner, but the belles were out for a special tea Sunday. The Cape Fear Garden Club hosted the tea and all 124 belles and their mothers were invited. The belles are a part of the Azalea Festival's Garden Tour, and they will appear at all of the homes on display. “It's just a way to get the girls together to let them all see each other in their beautiful gowns and to have some social time,” said Brenda Moore of the Azalea Garden Tour. The girls said there are four dressmakers in town they went to for their specially made dress. Two of the belles wore dresses that were particularly special. The Peverall sisters wore two of the bridesmaid dresses from their mother's wedding. 23 years ago their mother Kim had a big southern, Antebellum wedding. “I grew up in Virginia. I think at that time all girls want a beautiful wedding and that was what stuck out in my mind and I was a big fan of Scarlet O'Hara,” said Kim Peverall. Both girls said they were honored to wear the dresses, and wish they could have been there for their mother's big day.
