Another Republican is entering the race for the State Senate seat currently held by R.C. Soles. Brunswick County Republicans are supporting Bill Rabon, a veterinarian.

Rabon is a Columbus County native and partner in Southport Animal Hospital. He’s also the vice chairman of the Brunswick Community College Board of Trustees.

Rabon says he will focus his campaign on economics, education, and environment. We asked him about the prospects of replacing the longest serving senator in state history.

“New faces, new blood will hopefully cut some of the wasteful spending, renew faith in state government and create jobs,” Rabon said.

Rabon will have to compete with Pender County native Bettie Fennell for the Republican nomination. Fennell came close to defeating Soles in the last election.

If elected, Rabon says his top priority will be creating jobs for the people of Brunswick, Columbus and Pender Counties.
