The man picked to replace a Bladen County Commissioner who died last month was killed in a car crash this morning. Stanley Richardson and his mother Beulah died in a crash around 8:30 a.m. It happened at the intersection of NC 87 and Cromartie Road in Elizabethtown.

According to Highway Patrol Richardson pulled into the path of an 18-wheeler just a few hundred yards from his home.

Richardson was an administrator at the Bladen County Board of Education, a pastor and had just been appointed to the County Commission. He would have filled the seat previously held by Margaret Lewis-Moore, who died of pneumonia last month.

Many accidents have occured on this bypass caused by cars on sideroads pulling out in front of a speeding vehicle on the bypass.

I think it must be a case of distraction on the part of the driver. It is so easy to become distracted behind the wheel–I know this from experience. The road is wide open where the accident occured, and the truck would have been highly visible.

But we can easily get distracted because of the hectic lives most of us have to live.

Such fine people. My condolences to family and friends.

My parents of Duplin County called me about this very tragic news. Mr. Richardson was my pastor at Adoram Baptist Church in Wallace, NC when I was growing up. He and his mother were very close. Very sad to hear this. My prayers are with his friends and family.
