Marshall beats Cunningham to challenge Burr

RALEIGH, NC (AP) -- Elaine Marshall has won the Democratic nomination to challenge North Carolina Sen. Richard Burr in November. The veteran state leader defeated former Army prosecutor Cal Cunningham in Tuesday's election.

Marshall argued during her campaign that she has advocated on behalf of average citizens and fought against powerful industries. She portrayed herself as an outsider in the race despite holding statewide office for more than a decade.

Marshall's victory was a blow to Democratic Party leaders in Washington who recruited Cunningham to the race and spent more than $100,000 to boost his campaign.

1. If the Annonited One had any imput in selecting Cunningham, he was doomed to failure.

2. If the Annointed One makes any attempt to support or campaign for Ms. Marshall, he further strengthens the re-election campaign for Senator Burr.

3. It would seem Ms. Marshall should either resign as Secretary of State or promise not to use her official appearances as Campaign stops funded by taxpayer dollars.

Of course, should she do that, she would not have her cushy state position to fall back on after she is defeated in November.
