The Leon Brogden Holiday Tournament features eight high school basketball teams, four from Wilmington and four from out of town. It’s a fun hoops event that fits right into the middle of the holiday season.

The tournament will tip off on Monday, December 27th with Hoggard High School facing Bunn at 2:30. Laney will play a team from Sewickley, Pennsylvania in game two at 4pm. Ashley takes to the court next; the Eagles play Raleigh Millbrook at 5:30. New Hanover wraps up day one, the Wildcats face South View in the round one finale at 7pm.

This year’s tournament will be a four-day affair. The championship game will be contested Thursday, December 30th at 2:30 in the afternoon. The early start time is due to a UNCW men’s basketball game that will be played that night.

Proceeds from the event will benefit scholarships for basketball players who participate in the tournament.

Tickets are available at all four Wilmington high schools and Stroud & Woodruff Accounting. Tickets are also available for purchase online on this website, http://www.wwaytv3.com/HolidayHoops

Tickets are $15 for a tournament book. $10 with student id. That’s 12 games in all.

Daily tickets are $10 for adults. $5 for students.

I was just wondering if academic eligibility rules are totally up to the school. It seems that way but if that is the case it’s a sad situation. Of course the school Board looks the other way on every other rule involving sports. School transfering in this County is a joke. Open enrolement is just a good way to cover it up.
