WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- While most folks were ringing in the New Year by celebrating with friends and family, Kathy Hardison was in labor. Wilmington's first baby of 2011 greeted the world at 3:25 a.m. New Year's day.

After four hours in labor in inside the New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Kathy Hardison gave birth to a 6 pound, 13 ounce baby boy.

The Hardisons named their son Elijah James. Though the day was very special for the family, to them, having children is nothing new. Elijah is the fifth child for Jeb and Kathy.

"Just another person into the party," says the proud papa, Jeb Hardison.

Elijah's due date was originally scheduled for Christmas day, but Kathy says she couldn't be happier that he came on New Year's day.

"It's more than just a means to an end," says Kathy Hardison. "When you're having a baby and going through child birth, its really transforming you into the mother of this child, so its wonderful."

With the New Year and a new happy and healthy baby boy, the Hardisons say they have a lot to look forward to.
