CAMP LEJEUNE, NC (AP) – A career infantryman who’s served at every level of the Marine Corps is taking over as commander of a North Carolina-based Marine division.
Lt. Gen. John M. Paxton will assume command of the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force on Tuesday. The ceremony will be held at Camp Lejeune.
Paxton was most recently the director of operations for the Joint Staff. As commander of the expeditionary force, he’ll oversee nearly 60,000 Marines and sailors from ground and air units on the east coast, including three bases in North Carolina.
The 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force is the largest air-ground task force in the Marine Corps, and one of only three in existence.
