WILMINGTON,NC (WWAY) — Tom Eanes was introduced to the Ashley football players on Tuesday, but Eanes is no stranger to football fans in the Cape Fear region. He’s been the head football coach at Pender High School the last seven seasons. His Patriots made the state playoffs the last five seasons. In fact Eanes led Pender to the 1-A state title game in Chapel Hill last month.

On Tuesday Tom Eanes said ” I don’t want to put any undo pressure on the young men. I just want to improve every week, get better and I want it to be fun for them to enjoy the game of football. Eventually we’d like to be able to surprise some people.”

Roy Turner is the director of athletics at Ashley. He says of all the applicants Eanes gave Ashley the best opportunity to win.

Quarterback Chance Shepherd knows life under Tom Eanes will be different due to the triple option offense that he’ll be bringing to Ashley. “We didn’t do any of that last year at Ashley. We’ll just have to see what happens.”
