WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police are investigating the first murder of the year after a fight outside a downtown Wilmington bar early this morning. Police say as many as 40 people were involved in the fight outside the Rhino Club that killed one man and sent two more to the hospital.

Blood stained the curb along the 100 block of Market Street in downtown Wilmington Monday morning hours after a fight outside the Rhino Club.

Witnesses say a group of about 30 to 40 people left the club at closing time. That’s when police say a fight broke out in the the street. Three men were stabbed during the brawl.

One of the victims, 20-year-old Taaron Jones was stabbed in the chest and pronounced dead at the hospital. His cousin, Jasmine Canty was with him Monday night. She says he was in an argument with a few people inside Rhino Club, but thought it was over when everyone went outside.

“I just saw him just standing there. I didn’t see him doing anything. I just saw him standing there,” Canty said.

She says she went across the street to Slice of Life, and when she came out he had already been taken to the hospital.

“I just went to the hospital. We waited in the hospital to see how it was going to go, and his mom came back and told me that he was gone, that he didn’t make it,” she said.

Jones’s uncle said he heard about the news Monday morning at work. He says his nephew did not deserve to die.

“He had his faults just like any other kid,” Ronald Lee Canty. “Whatever went on last night, I don’t think it deserved his life or causing him to be dead today, but things happen.”

Shortly after the stabbings, police say two men were shot in the 600 block of Emory Street. Investigators say that shooting may have been connected to the stabbings here on Market Street.

He was a convicted felon! Wow, I didn’t see that one coming. He was a gang member, had been arrested and convicted of identity theft, possession of stolen goods. I’m sure he was a great guy. Heck, too bad I never had the chance to invite him over.

For one he WAS NOT a convicted felon get your story right before you come on here critisizing someone you dont know.Just as a human being lookin outside this incident you should have enough decency and respect for somone’s family that’s in mourning right now if anything with a heart like yours i would hate to have you at my house right now.Maybe you as well as the media should take a good look at yourselves as people and ask who the the real “thugs” are! this is coming from his mother and his sister that has to love him unconditionally which i hope you all will have the decency to do with your love ones when they dont fit in this “perfect” my son wasnt perfect i unlike most of you can admit to it.When your love one is murdered i’m sure the last thing you want to hear is that they deserve it.And the media in one second telling that there’s justice but then sneaking in punches telling about his past which is irrelevant at this moment. You all need to get yourselves together as a media and as a people if you want to tell a story tell it right and tell the whole story moreless tell the truth!

Every single teacher who simply shrugged when a student said that he was thinking about dropping out of high school.

Every single guy who bragged about how prison wasn’t that bad, and how it made him tougher.

Every single mom/grandmother who did NOTHING when junior came home at 3AM on a school night with a wad of cash in his pocket and a 9mm in his waistmand.

Every single friend who didn’t say, “I’m sorry, but I can’t be your friend if you’re going to jail all the time.

Ditto any friend who didn’t say, I won’t be friends with a gang-banger.

Every single person who laughed because so-and-so just shoplifted three DVD players from Wal-Mart. Every single person who didn’t hesitate to buy one from him….or a case of stolen diapers….or a case of stolen infant formula.

Every single pwrson who knows who stabbed this young man, but won’t let the police know. They also did a lot toward killing the next guy.

THAT is who killed him. The whole community killed him, because “these things just sorta happen,” right?

OMG! You really sound stupid! You don’t know what this man has been thru in life. He was loved by a lot of people. You are so wrapped up in your landfall life. Get over yourself. A mother has lost her son. People make mistakes, nobody has the right to just kill someone. All this talk about mr. Jones and who he was and what he did needs to end let him rest in peace. There is not one comment on here about who did this or how they should be in jail.

To the family and friends of Mr. Jones life has just started for him he is in a better place. Know that u have two angels now. RIP TAA and Quey!!

Only in America do we settle for this crap. All of those people should be behind bars as they are nothing but societal rejects. The Rhino Club needs to be shut down as it only attracts street trash. ANother youth gone because of a “troubled” life. Get over it and grow up. It starts at home. It starts with the parents and family. Family that cares don’t allow their kids to go to slum clubs like this one.

When are they going to close this dump down?

so what are you saying….just because a “human being” made a couple mistakes in his or her life that means that anyone has the right to just come and take that person life… i know you have made a mistake before…. so do that give me the right to just come and take your life??

Finally we have some people in this city that see the problem and aren’t scared to stand up and say something about it!! I wish everyone can see what is wrong with this picture and quit trying to sugar coat it and make this guy look like he is a model kid because obviously if he was he wouldn’t be dead right now from being stabbed! What goes around comes around and it sure did come back to him!
