WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) - Dr. Diane Levy, Professor of Sociology and Criminology at UNCW, claims the university's search for a new chancellor is all but over, and that the effort to appear transparent with websites and committees is for perception only.
Levy made those comments earlier this week at the Federal Appeals Court in Richmond, where she's named as a co-defendant in a suit being brought against the university by Dr. Mike Adams.
She said the university was "trying to look transparent" regarding the search by setting up a website and committees, but they basically already know who they want. She said they expect to have an announcement by May and should start eliminating candidates in March.
We followed up with Dr. Levy today, and she denied saying those things, adding that she would have no way of knowing such information because she has nothing to do with the search committee. When asked if she was then saying the reporter who heard her say the comments made them up, she said, "No," but denied again that she said them. She says "the reporter misunderstood, perhaps."
Wendy Murphy, the chair of the search committee, told us that as of today there is no list of interested finalists. That list, she says, won't happen until the committee's first meeting next week.
