WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington City Council made some big decisions in the world of New Hanover County sports on Tuesday.

The council voted to let the Wilmington Hammerheads soccer team use Legion Stadium for three years. The team will play 16 home games at the stadium.

The Hammerheads and the city will share the profits made from food and beverages at the game. The city will receive 25 percent of the profits and the Hammerheads will receive 75 percent of the profits.

The council also voted to agree to a contract to replace the stadium’s field with a synthetic turf. The city of Wilmington, New Hanover County and the New Hanover County School System will contribute one third of the price to help pay for the new turf.

Does it really make sense to take money from education and use it to put artificial turf on a football/soccer field? Where are the priorities?

  • Commonsensenotcommontoday says:

Saffo, the City Council, and all the county commissioners will likely all have brand new lawns when the perfectly good, completely healthy turf at the stadium now is cut up and removed.

I know this isn’t the best you can come up with, you’re starting to sound as lame as Guesty.

  • Guest99x says:

Hey guest, you sound as lame as the mayor and commissioners, city and county… We are in difficult times. There are many better ways to spend taxpayers’ money.

  • Guest says:

I guess we all must be sounding lame. I wasn’t defending spending money,I was referring to Common’s attempt at humor or whatever he calls it. Check out the one about the guy’s belt, that’s a hoot too.At least Taxpayer thought so. The thing is he use to be witty now he comes up with these gems. Reminds me of Dennis Miller, he was funny and witty until he went so far to the right he’s now neither.
