McIntyre pushing balanced budget amendment

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Rep. Mike McIntyre says cutting federal spending is the main focus of the new session of Congress.

The Democrat from Lumberton spoke to the Downtown Rotary Club this afternoon at the Coastline Center. He spoke about increasing jobs in the area, both right now and in the near future. McIntyre said Wilmington will host a job creation conference in March and a job seekers bootcamp in April.

With the start of the new session of Congress, McIntyre said he is most concerned about the national budget.

"I've always worked on and I'm co-sponsoring a bill to balance the budget with a balanced budget amendment, so it's required, not just suggested, but required that we are frugal and good stewards with the tax payer's money," McIntyre said.

McIntyre said he was recently appointed chairman of the Sea Power and Projection Forces, a sub-committee for the Armed Services Committee, which he says will better help the Navy and Marine Corps.
