ALBERMARLE, NC (AP) — A North Carolina trial has been postponed again for a Georgia woman accused of trying to hire someone to kill her fourth husband in 1986.
Stanly County officials have charged 78-year-old Betty Neumar with three counts of solicitation to commit first-degree murder.
Authorities say she tried to hire three different people to kill Harold Gentry in the six weeks before his bullet-riddled body was found in his home.
Investigators reopened the case of 20 years of prodding by Gentry’s brother and found that Neumar had left a trail of five dead husbands in five states.
She was arrested in 2008 and her trial was set to begin Monday, but prosecutors said they need more time to review documents. Neumar says she’s innocent. Her attorney did not immediately return a telephone message Monday.
