RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Gov. Bev Perdue is ready to release the first round of results from an effort by her administration to eliminate North Carolina government rules she says defy common sense and create bureaucracy.
Perdue scheduled a news conference Tuesday to follow up on a November announcement that administration officials would review rules and regulations found to be unnecessary. Her office created an electronic suggestion box to welcome ideas from the public.
Perdue said she was responding to complaints that government gets in the way or regulates too much.
The announcement comes on the same day a state Senate committee scheduled a debate on a bill that would prevent state agencies from adopting a rule that would result in additional costs on the public, with some exceptions.
