BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — We have an update on a story from last night about allegations against former Bladen County Schools Superintendent Greg Killingsworth.

Today District Attorney Jon David said he and Bladen County Sheriff Prentis Benston have asked the SBI to look into accusations by a citizens group at last night’s school board meeting.

The Bladen Improvement Association said Killingsworth had a non-family member on his insurance plan. They also accused him of misusing a county credit card.

From all that I have been able to follow – the only conclusion that I have been able to come up with is that our community should be ashamed. Mr. Killingsworth came into Bladen County, making and attempting much needed improvements. I am confused as to how and why the NAACP is involved. How does the NAACP fit into the allegations of having a non-family member on the insurance plan (NC should have “Common Law Marriage”) and/or misuse of a county credit card? It seems that either we fear the unknown (the latest technology that was being brought into Bladen County), or politics are being played. Bladen County – shame. It is 2011 and what this man tried to do for our education system was to bring us up to date and improve our children’s education. Does anyone know this man personally? All I can say is it looks political to me and he does not come across as the “Yes man” some resort themselves to. I admit that I have no knowledge of what was placed on the alleged misuse of the county credit card, however, I am waiting to be informed.
