DURHAM, N.C. (AP) – Nolan Smith scored 22 of his career-high 34 points in the second half, and No. 5 Duke rallied from 16 points down to beat No. 20 North Carolina 79-73 on Wednesday night.
Seth Curry added a season-high 22 points for the Blue Devils (22-2, 9-1 ACC). They trailed 43-27 in the final minute of the first half and were down 14 at halftime before clamping down on the Tar Heels, outscoring them 50-30 in the final 20 minutes to keep hold of first place in the league.
Tyler Zeller had 24 points and a career-high 13 rebounds, and John Henson added 14 points for North Carolina (17-6, 7-2), which had its five-game winning streak snapped and lost for the third straight time in college basketball’s fiercest rivalry.

As usual, Duke got an extra hand from the officials. Called a lot of phantom fouls against UNC to help get them back in the game, then finally started calling it down the middle when Duke went up. Wouldn’t be surprised if the officials weren’t told to keep it close by the ACC higher ups. Closer game, more viewership, more money. Half of Duke’s points came off push-offs and moving screens. On a neutral court, UNC would have won by 20. At least they have to come to Chapel Hill where it will be a slaughter.

Sir, you sound like a sore loser. I’m a wolfpack fan, so I align myself with neither team. Bottom line: North Carolina ran out of steam.
