FORT BRAGG, NC (AP) — A federal safety investigation of homes at Fort Bragg has found no environmental factors that might explain a series of infant deaths.

Eleven infants have died in unexplained circumstances at the fort since 2007

Jack McCarthy with Environmental Health and Engineering, Inc. says workers did thousands of tests for a range of environmental factors and found that all were normal. McCarthy says investigators are still testing for some pesticides that were at slightly elevated levels. But he says initial samples indicated the pesticides were simply at the upper end of a normal range and do not pose a health hazard.

Dean Woodard with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission says investigators do not think there is a connection between drywall in the homes and the Fort Bragg deaths.
