Brunswick Town brings history back to life

WINNABOW, NC (WWAY) -- History came to life this weekend in Brunswick County. The festivities, held at the Brunswick Town Historic Site, were in commemoration of the 146th anniversary of the Civil War battle at Fort Anderson and the 245th anniversary of the Stamp Act resistance.

Reenactors dressed as Civil War infantry troops, giving weapons and artillery demonstrations. A living history confederate camp was home to many of the reenactors for the weekend.

This is the 13th year Curt Cole has been a reenactor. This weekend he was a captain in the Confederate Army. “If you're in school or class, I suspect a history book can be pretty dry and boring. You can come out and see it live in person. It's hands on. It's like history in 3D.”

A settler's camp with period clothes and memorabilia for sale was also available for visitors.
