UPDATE: Pender and Brunswick wildfires contained

PENDER COUNTY, NC / BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- Extremely dry air and gusty winds lead to numerous fires throughout the weekend. The North Carolina Division of Forest Resources says the causes of both fires is still under investigation.

Wildfires near the Holly Shelter Game Land burned nearly 700 acres of land. No homes were damaged, and no evacuations were made. Crews are still monitoring the fire to make sure it is contained. Fire Marshal Charles Newman says this is the largest fire in the area since 2007.

Forest Resources says approximately 150 acres of land in Brunswick County have been burned. The fires caused some small structural damages, but no homes were destroyed, and no evacuations were made.

Crews will continue to monitor both fires as winds continue to shift.
