RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Gov. Bev Perdue has used her veto for the first time on legislation approved by the new Republican majority at the Legislature.

The Democratic incumbent on Tuesday officially vetoed a budget-savings bill that tries to collect about $540 million in savings from the current year budget and reserves.

Perdue has said for weeks she doesn’t like the bill because it would take money from a pair of economic incentive programs her office uses to recruit companies. More money heading for the Golden LEAF Foundation would be diverted.

The bill now returns to the Legislature, where an override appears difficult. Three-fifths of the members voting on an override in the House and Senate would have to agree in order for the vetoed measure to become law anyway.

“This bill started out as a way to help North Carolina secure $400 million in additional savings from state government agencies during this difficult budget time,” said Gov. Perdue. “I suggested that bill to the General Assembly and was ready to sign that legislation. But the bill in its current form forces a one-time cash-grab from funds that are intended to create jobs and spur economic development. That’s not the right move for North Carolina, where jobs simply must be our No. 1 priority.”

She spent over $6000.00 to fly here on the state jet to have breakfast at UNCW when her Highway patrol friends could have gotten her here from the gubernatorial money pit (Mansion) just as fast. What a waste!

Ok really!!!! she dont wont this bill because it would take away from her office but she is willing to cut programs at the school that encourages people to come live here and attend our schools??Or better yet she is willing to cut teachers jobs, the ones who educate our children??And she wants to take money/time from the state workers??Who does she think she is but I guess you can make those kind of decissions when they dont affect you…because she gets paid off of our tax dollars,we pay for her vacations, plane rides, clothes and probably her food.So if they want to start helping the budget how about trying this..take the private jets they have, stop all the vacations they go on,and so and so on.Why cant they drive like the rest of us,pay for their own vacation like we do,cook their own food..and so on..I dont know but I dont think it would take a rocket scientist to know these things. All I know is come voting day I will vote for any body but HER…she has done nothing she said she was going to do.What happened to making class rooms smaller, getting teachers the salery they deserve?Oh thats right,it doesn’t bother her any more because she is no longer a teacher!!!!!so fed up with the politicians and the lies they tell just to get into office so they can live this lavish life style while the ones who put them in there are struggling to make ends meet!!!!

I expect her to veto any bill that will reduce spending on her selected projects. She has done little to recruit industry to the state, so why does she need money in the budget for that purpose?
