ANIMAL CRUELTY CASE – WPD requests public assistance
Time: 12:15 p.m. – Wednesday afternoon
Location: 2800 block Vance Street
Offense: Cruelty to Animals
Summary: Someone killed two puppies by striking them on their heads. A WPD officer was dispatched to the area after a USPS letter carrier heard one of the injured pups crying and called 911. The letter carrier found the two pups in a nearby ditch. One already was dead. The other had visible injuries but was still alive. Animal Control responded and transported the badly injured puppy for emergency veterinary care, but the dog died from its injuries. Animal Control later informed the investigating WPD officer that the pups had been hit with (from the nature of the injuries) probably was the claw end of a hammer. The investigating officer began canvassing the Long Leaf Park area in an attempt to locate the owner of the puppies, but the case remains under investigation.
