WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Gas prices in the Cape Fear are soaring high, and many folks are feeling the pain at the pump.

Most prices we spotted around town are as high as $3.49 per gallon of regular unleaded.

Fenton Maxwell says the increasing prices are extremely stressful for him, because he is a taxi cab driver. That means he has to get gas almost every day.

He thought more people would need cabs, so they didn’t have to use their own gas, but he has found that is not the case.

“It doesn’t actually mean any more business for us necessarily,” Maxwell said. “It doesn’t seem to mean anymore business for us, but it certainly is increasing our cost of doing business, so it’s really taking food off of our table.”

Maxwell says that even though gas prices are high, he still charges his customers the same price, so he has to absorb the cost of gas. He is nervous for the summer, because he knows the numbers will continue to climb.
