NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (NEWS RELEASE) — New Hanover County property owners with outstanding property tax obligations will see their names published in upcoming editions of area newspapers. Over $7.1 million is currently delinquent on 5448 accounts.
Under North Carolina General Statute, counties are required to advertise delinquent taxes each year. Property taxes for 2010 were due January 5, 2011. Property owners who did not make payment by that date are now liable for the amount due, plus interest and an additional $2.55 to cover the cost of advertising in the Wilmington Journal, Lumina News and Star News.
How to pay your bill
You can pay in person at 230 Government Center Drive, Suite 190, Wilmington NC between the hours of 7:30 am and 5:00 pm. If you don’t want to wait in line or need to pay after hours we have secure drop boxes for your convenience at the following locations: outside the south entrance of the Government Center complex and inside the mall area at the entrance to the Tax Office. Payments are collected from these secure receptacles several times daily.
Make checks payable to New Hanover County Tax Office and mail to PO Box 18000, Wilmington NC 28406. Please include your bill year, bill number and type of tax that you are paying to ensure that your account is properly credited.
Credit and debit card payments can be made at http://www.officialpayments.com or by calling 1-800-2-PAY-TAX. The jurisdiction code is 4345. The vendor providing this service will charge a fee. You must have the bill year, bill type and bill number to ensure that your account is properly credited. PLEASE NOTE – CREDIT AND DEBIT CARDS ARE NOT ACCEPTED IN THE OFFICE.
Mortgage company and escrow payments
If requested, the tax office supplies delinquent information to major lenders. However, we strongly recommend that if you have a mortgage company and your taxes are delinquent; you should contact your lender immediately and advise them of the balance due. The Tax Information line is (910) 798-7300.
