RALEIGH, NC (AP) — People carrying legally concealed handguns in North Carolina could take them into more restaurants and into state and local parks if an idea in the House becomes law.

A House judiciary committee recommended Wednesday a measure allowing someone with a concealed handgun permit to carry the weapon when eating in a restaurant that serves alcohol. The law would permit the hidden handgun in state parks and also prevent local governments from passing ordinances banning guns in parks they operate.

The bill now heads to the full House. It passed after narrow approval of a Democratic amendment that would require a restaurant employee to ask a customer getting a drink if they are carrying a concealed weapon. It’s against the law for someone armed that way to consume alcohol.

Drunks from bars and restaurants packing heat, and soccer moms in the park locked and loaded. Honestly people…how stupid can we be!

Thugs with semi-automatic handguns raping your wife and children while you try to stop him with a bat. how stupid are YOU?

Maj…you have really outdone yourself this time. Nobody plans to let drunks carry handguns. It means letting those in the dining area of restaurants that serve alcohol carry their weapon, which at this time is illegal. As for moms in parks with their kids, how many kidnappers and preditors would lurk around if they knew some of the moms were armed? Think about it and possibly you will figure it out.

I’d rather be judged by 12, than carried by 6

Yeah…because the people we really need to worry about all those law-abiding citizens who bothered to get a concealed carry permit and follow the laws in the first place. Are you really naive enough to believe that those who wish to do violence let a sign on a door or at the entrance to a park keep them from carrying? This law might actually save a life or 20. P.S.: Read a little more carefully–it still will be illegal to consume alcohol while carrying.

We can require people to leave their weapons in their cars in restaurant parking lots. Where do you think more weapons are stolen from – parked cars, or people’s hips?

Please note that the bill mentions restaurants – not bars. Knock off the cheap sensationalism. You can easily require X percentage of income based upon food sales.

Believe it or not, bad guys go to the park too, though usually not to play ball or fly a kite. How many joggers are raped, how many people are robbed in parks every year?

You have NOTHING to fear from a person who has been thoroughly investigated and issued a concealed carry permit. Do you realize that it’s now taking over 120 days of background checking to issue a permit?

Time to get rid of that “Good Liberal Checklist,” MAJ.

It would still be illegal to carry while drunk, as it always has been. This is just about expanding where I have the right to conceal carry to make it more usable. How about you read the states gun laws before you just make stuff up? Hear that story a few weeks back about the gun they found someone illegally carrying on campus? How could that possibly happen when they post “no firearm” signs? I thought that protected us?

Think man!

I hope this passes. A citizen goes through an extensive and expensive background check, as well as firearms training and is still treated like a criminal. There are more places that you cannot take your concealed weapon that you can. If an officer of the law approaches you, he must be informed that you have a gun on your person. All this is totally ridiculous. It is the ones that carry without a permit that they need to worry about. If someone wants to hurt someone with a handgun, these laws will not stop them. These laws and most other gun laws only inconvenience and harass those who are no threat to begin with.

First, the people who hold concealed carry licenses have been thoroughly investigated by the sheriff. They are responsible, law abiding citizens. They follow the rules. They don’t start shooting up parks or busboys.

All of you anti-gun loons somehow think that crazy people are being given permits to carry concealed. Care to tell us about how many concealed carried permit holders lose their licenses for firearm related crimes in any given year? You’ll be very depressed if you do the research. Some get revoked for domestic violence or DWIs, but practically none are revoked for negligent or intentional misuse of a firearm.

Second, while you are spot on regarding the need to be aware of your surroundings, you have absolutely no idea how a properly trained individual can respond…nor do you know anything about home defense. I am alive today because I had a firearm close by when a burglar entered my home. I can literally give you dozens of examples of people attacked in parks, parking lots, and at home who successfully used a firearm to defend their lives

I’d say that YOU are more interested in denying people their freedom than any busboy I’ve ever met. You want to deny people the right to defend themselves….

….and your only tool is nonsensical, over-the-top rhetoric about law abiding citizens somehow being a problem.

I love how every time one of these gun laws comes up the pro gun supporters start talking about joggers getting raped in parks, children getting abducted from playgrounds, and the “bring a knife to a gunfight” scenario.

Simple fact is this. The element of surprise is a rapist or kidnapper’s greatest weapon. No victim is prepared for either event. No gun, knife, bat, whatever will defend an unsuspecting victim from an attack. Self defense training may. As for guns in the home… what is the point? Gun owners typically keep their weapons locked up to protect their children from accidentally getting ahold of them. An unloaded gun locked in a nightstand may take too long to load once you realize an intruder is in your house.

We want to allow campers to take guns into state parks so they can get drunk and shoot at beer cans or squirrels? We want to allow people to take their guns into restaurants that serve alcohol so they can… what… defend themselves when they are attacked by a muslim, non-english speaking busboy who hates their freedom?

I wish people would think before they speak. Only the idiots spew gun hatred without knowing the facts. Long process and much checking goes into these permits. I would recommend the class to anyone even if you are not planning to carry. You would be amazed at what you are not allowed to do with a weapon even in your own home
