PINEHURST, North Carolina – Led by senior Josh Brock’s playoff win for medalist honors, UNCW earned its second win of the spring schedule and third of the season with a six-shot victory over Virginia Tech on Sunday at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate.
Brock (74-69-69=212) opened the day tied for third, but carded his second straight two-under-par 69 to move into the lead with VCU’s Matt Ball (74-72-66=212), where he would win in a playoff against his Colonial Athletic foe. For Brock, who captured medalist honors with a birdie on the first playoff hole, it was his second collegiate tournament win and his 12th top-10 finish overall.
The Seahawks moved into the lead following the second round and held off Virginia Tech several times in the final round to win the tournament.
Freshman Ryan Nagy (72-70-75=217), who was in second after 36 holes, finished in a tie for eighth, playing as an individual.
Freshman Payne McLeod (76-71-71=218) wound up in a tie for 12th to round out UNCW’s top-20 finishes.
The Seahawks return to action on Mar. 18-20, at the Furman Intercollegiate.
