SHALLOTTE, NC (WWAY) — It was a big day at the Shallotte Assisted Living Center. One of its residents, Adalena Filocamo, turned a whopping 102 years old.

Filocamo says she credits a steady diet of eating at least two eggs a day.

“You see, I used to make meat for my husband, but I don’t like meat, so I made two eggs for me,” says Filocamo.

The oldest of nine brothers and sisters, Filocamo was born in Brazil, but lived most of her childhood in Italy. In 1929, she moved to New York City with her family. Three years ago, she moved to Shallotte to live in the Assisted Living Center with her caretaker.

A seamstress and avid cook, Filocamo has always stayed active. She still walks her Shih Tzu, Marco Polo every morning. Marco was unfortunately unable to attend the party because he was being groomed, but a picture was close by.

So, what advice does Filocamo have for living a long and full life?

“Eat the good stuff,” says Filocamo. “Don’t eat junk food. Move around all the time. Keep moving.”

Filocamo was surrounded by friends and family. Seven relatives drove down from New Jersey to help her celebrate.
