WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Once the Queen cuts the ribbon Friday morning on the Azalea Garden Tour, you can visit a garden that has a taste of both beauty and history.
The Frelkes’ Spanish-style home was built by Emmett Bellamy in the 1930s. It’s shaded by big, beautiful live oaks that stand overhead some gorgeous spring color.
You’ll find red and white azaleas, even some lush Lady Banks roses over the front door, but there are many neat parts to this expansive garden.
“We’ve kind of tried to develop different themes around different parts of our yard, so it will be kind of a different experience as they walk through the tour, and I think they’ll find a lot of local plants as well,” owner Sean Frelke said.
The large courtyard opens up to a fountain feature complete with koi. Annual color in the back yard includes pansies and knockout roses.
You’ll want to stay and relax a while in this comfortable outdoor space.
