RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – The chairman of a House committee says Republicans are moving forward with their original voter identification bill because Democrats wouldn’t commit to supporting the legislation if it offered more ID options without photos.

Rep. David Lewis of Dunn said the House elections panel would vote on the bill later Wednesday after debate earlier in the day.

An earlier version of the bill floated last week would have allowed voters to show their voter registration card to vote in addition to one of seven approved photo identifications.

The bill debated Wednesday would revert to requiring photo IDs only. Counties also would create a new kind of voter card issued by counties that included a photo.

House Democrats called the latest bill a “farce” that would disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of citizens.

    1. What possible objection could you have to people having to prove they are who they say they are and that they have a right to vote? You are obviously defending corruption and voter fraud.

    2. Since the 2011 federal budget was due to be submitted by 15 April 2010, why did you not submit a budget? You controlled the House, Senate, and White House, but you did not submit a budget in April…or May…or June…or July…or August…or September…or October. Counting the two months after the election, you had EIGHT MONTHS to submit a budget that the Republicans couldn’t have stopped, but you chose to avoid submitting it before the election….an election where you had your well broiled butts handed to you, anyway.

I look forward to November of 2012. Another third of you will be flushed.
