WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A new event this year at the Azalea Festival was the Azalea Festival Tennis Challenge.

The featured match today pitted tennis’s bad boy John McEnroe against former world No. 4 Todd Martin.

In the end, McEnroe came out on top (4-6, 6-1, 12-10). But the real winner was the Althea Gibson Tennis Center at Empie Park, which gets the proceeds from the event. That includes a $2,100 winning bid for a racket and shirt McEnroe used today. The 17-time grand slam champ made his own donation matching that bid.
