WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Teams from around the state are calling the Riverside Hilton their home court this week.

Downtown Wilmington is the site for the North Carolina Athletic Directors Association (NCADA) conference. Two-hundred-fifty high school AD’s are in town for the three-day event.

NC State athletic director Debbie Yow presented her keynote address Monday afternoon. Funding for education is tight, and athletic budget cuts are often the first to come.

“There couldn’t be anything more important,” Yow said. “Yes, you need to have textbooks, etc., etc., but I just want to say publicly that there are few endeavors that have the positive, lifelong positive impact that being a high school athlete can bring, whether they go on to play college or not.”

Informational meetings and training sessions will wrap up Wednesday with the induction of the newest members of the NCADA Hall of Fame. Included in this year’s class is former New Hanover AD Joe Miller.
