WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Now that they share a helicopter, the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office gave Wilmington Police some big bucks to help pay for it.

This morning the Sheriff gave WPD a $300,000 grant. It will be used to help support the sable program and to buy night vision goggles for the law enforcement helicopter.

$270,000 came from a Homeland Security grant. It also includes $30,000 worth of equipment from the Sheriff’s old helicopter.

“I am excited about our new partnership with SABLE, and I’m just glad that we’re able to assist and give this grant to SABLE to make it a more successful program,” Sheriff Ed McMahon said.

The funds will also be used to provide equipment to allow a live feed from the helicopter to officers on the ground. Equipment bought using the grant money must be purchased by July 31.

Finally we have a sheriff and police chief who can get along, save money for the city/county and hopefully combine in other areas to save money.

You have got to be kidding me!! You don’t have a clue as to what these guys waste every single day. CROOK CAUSEY bought the stupid thing to begin with without the approval of the commissioners, then the so called pilot assaults another county worker and then good “OLE” Ed has to get rid of the thing. So he gives the grant money to the SABLE program instead of loosing it back to the people it came from. You must be living in another country!

before you blow a gasket. Sounds like you have a personal grudge against the sheriff’s department. . or is this fowl attitude normal for you? I think it’s a great thing that these two men are getting along and working together.

The purchase of that helicopter was made by Department of Homeland Security grant money and seized drug money. Gerow was an embarrassment and now isn’t a problem for anybody except himself.
