WPD: Drunk driver plays bumper cars over the weekend

THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS FROM THE WILMINGTON POLICE DEPARTMENT:

Case#: 2011-016778
Time: 2:54 a.m. – Sunday morning
Offense: DWI, fleeing to elude arrest, exceeding posted speed limit, failure to burn headlights

Summary: A WPD officer saw a man driving at high rate of speed with his lights off, headed northbound on Nutt Street. The vehicle ran through the dead end of Nutt Street at Brunswick and into a field. Then the driver turned around and ran all the stop signs to 3rd Street.

The officer initiated a traffic stop at Third and Red Cross Streets. The suspect pulled over, but as the officer got out of his car, the suspect took off again.

The officer kept him in sight until the suspect / driver hit three parked cars and wrecked at 9th and Grace Streets. The driver ran from the scene but was quickly apprehended on 10th Street.

Travis Jacob Lee, d.o.b. 5-24-1975, was arrested and charged as noted above. He posted $10,000 bond and was released.
