WILMINGTON,NC (WWAY) -- In late March Stilman White verbally committed to play college basketball at the University of North Carolina. The Hoggard High School senior guard made it official on Wednesday. He signed a national letter of intent to play for the Tar Heels. The all-state selection will be the first player from Wilmington to suit up for UNC in men's basketball since Michael Jordan in early 1980s. "It feels a little more official now than it did previously," White said. "It's a happy day and I'm excited that I'm going to officially be a Tar Heel. Hopefully I can make coach Roy Williams proud and do some great things up there."
Brett Queen coached Stilman White at Hoggard. "We're really excited about the opportunity he has to play at the next level," Queen said. He'll be following his dream of playing college basketball at a pretty high level institution."
Stilman White's first game as a Tar Heel may will likely be on an aircraft carrier. UNC will be playing Michigan State on a docked aircraft carrier on November 11th outside San Diego, California. "That's a pretty good way to kick off your college basketball career," White said. "I can use depth perception as an excuse if I miss any shots."
