WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Children with special needs danced their hearts out at the 10th Annual UNCW Student Council for Exceptional Students Spring Dance today.

More than 175 exceptional children from New Hanover and Brunswick County middle and high schools danced and socialized at their own personal dance party. For many, the dance is one of the few times during the year that they will see their friends from other schools.

“Our hopes are to just have a safe, fun place for people with disabilities to come and hang out with their friends and have fun, dance, have some good eats,” student officer Sarah Pridgen said.

UNCW’s student chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children hosted the event.
