STATESVILLE, NC (AP) – A Statesville man’s tune could be played as the wakeup call for the Space Shuttle Endeavour crew.

Stan Clardy submitted his song, “I Need My Space,” to NASA’s Space Rock song competition, and it has been named as one of 10 finalists.

NASA says the wakeup song has been a space program tradition since the days of the Apollo mission.

More than 1,300 songs were submitted. Voting for the 10 finalists is now open on the NASA.gov website.

Endeavor is scheduled to launch April 29.

Clardy says he has been passionate about space exploration since he was a child.
