COLERAIN, NC (AP) — Gov. Bev Perdue is meeting with families and victims in areas of eastern North Carolina that were most devastated by deadly tornadoes.

Perdue said Tuesday in Colerain that she is seeing people who have lost everything they have in life. She says it takes a tremendous faith to overcome such a tragedy but she believes the faith is there to do it.

Perdue’s tour of the area included meetings with Bertie County emergency management officials, victims and families of victims. Officials have said that 11 people were killed in the county.

The governor also plans to visit Roanoke Rapids and Wilson. She says there is widespread destruction of agricultural lands, something she says the state isn’t accustomed to.
