BOLIVIA, NC (AP) – Scores of mourners packed the bleachers at South Brunswick High School to pay tribute to a stand-out football player shot to death in a parking lot during a weekend gathering.

Marcus Hankins, 19, died early Saturday after being injured during a fight following a private wedding reception at the Democratic headquarters building in the town of Supply.

The Brunswick County Sheriff Department is investigating. Sheriff’s spokeswoman April Stanley said Tuesday no one has been charged in the death.

Students held candles and many cried as speakers delivered words of encouragement during Monday’s campus service. A sheriff’s deputy and local pastor also appealed for less violence among teens.
