BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) --If you are planning to drive in Brunswick County this week, plan to break your bad driving habits. Law enforcement will be on the look out for dangerous drivers. And people we spoke to like that plan.

Hope Barfield said “I think it's a good idea.”

While Hope Barfield doesn't plan on traveling this weekend, she knows how dangerous alcohol can be. “And it's not just you that you're putting at risk it's families and just individuals so it's important that they crack down on that.”

Which is just what Brunswick county police have in mind, stepping up enforcement of speeding, aggressive drivers as well as drunk drivers. It’s called operation spring break.

Leland Police Chief Tim Jayne said, “we invite people all over the country to spend time in Brunswick county vacationing. what we want to ensure is that they do so safely.”

Teresa Joyner another Brunswick county resident we spoke to said she does see her share of bad drivers.” I would say sometimes people on their cell phones I see and sometimes I might see young people putting on their makeup and reading.”

Police say recent fatalities have been a result of hostile and drunk drivers and they intend to fully enforce motor vehicle laws.

all they do is sit on the

all they do is sit on the top of the bridge by west brunswick and shoot the radar gun down on 17 and when they find somebody send one of the 8 cars they had already runninf and sitin on the side of the off ramp

Money Grab

What a great guise for a money grab. "Let's pretend we're keeping the roads safe this holiday weekend by sending out LEO's in full force and harass people that drive on our roads." The lawyers profit, the insurance companies profit, and local government profits, and who gets the blame and the hate?...the law enforcement officers. I seen them swarming 17 on my way to work this morning. Remember to buckle up people! I heard it's $126 now!

money grab

i agree totally.i saw them too,but what i saw is called intrapment, there was a state trooper with his radar gun standing on a bridge at an overpass, while other police cars (like 5 or 6 of them)on the side of the road coming off the ramp onto hwy17.yeah lets target the working people trying to go to work and lets just keep turning our heads when an illegal mexican or a drunk thats been caught 10 times drive by us everyday! stop picking on us regular hard working people that is having a hard enough time just trying to keep gas in our cars!

I'm with The truth.....just

I'm with The truth.....just a money grab. If they really wanted to keep us safe, they would do something about all these Bozos on cell phones not paying attention to their driving.

I really dont think there

I really dont think there harrassing anyone! If your going the speed limit and wearing your seat belt then you have nothing to worry about. I think its great that there out there. Maybe everyone will use a little more caution this weekend and there wont be any lives lost because of someone like you..
