WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Students of all ages celebrated Earth Day a day early by cleaning up their campus and community.

Although tomorrow is officially Earth Day, concerned students, faculty and staff teamed up to prove that every day is Earth Day by cleaning up trash around Cape Fear Community College’s North Campus and Blue Clay Road.

CFCC student Lisa Coogan said she’s passionate about picking up litter, because she’s concerned about her children’s future and the future of the earth.

“If you don’t keep it clean, eventually, we’re not going to have a land to even do anything fun on,” she said. “So to me, looking at it from a child’s aspect, where are they going to play? What are they going to do? They can’t even discover nature if pollution is everywhere.”

Wilmington Early College 9th grader Myeshia McBride said cleaning up trash is easy. You just have to get up and do it.

“It starts with us,” she said. “If we start now, then maybe people will follow us.”
