Student article leads to Durham teacher arrest


WINSTON-SALEM, NC (AP) - A band instructor in Durham has
turned himself into authorities in Winston-Salem after a college
newspaper published details of a sexual relationship between a high
school teacher and student.

Twenty-eight-year-old Terry Lamar Jones Jr. was charged Monday
with 64 counts of sexual activity with a student. Investigators say
Jones was teaching at Parkland High School in Winston-Salem when
the student was 17 and the teacher 24. Investigators say the sex
occurred for seven months in 2007.

The first-person newspaper article refers to the teacher only as
"Smith" and says he helped the student obtain an abortion.
