WILMINGTON,NC (WWAY) -- Former Laney High School wrestler Boomer Boyd has signed a national letter of intent to wrestle at the University of Missouri. He'll be wrestling for the Tigers on a wrestling scholarship. Boyd has lived in Wilmington his entire life, but he transferred to Cary High School in Wake County in order to wrestle for the Imps his senior season. Boyd sported a 48-2 record at Cary. He finished as the state runner-up his junior year. He finished third this past season at the state tourney wrestling for Cary. He finished as the state runner-up his junior year at Laney. The Wilmington native chose Missouri over Duke, NC State, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Indiana.
Earlier this month Topsail senior Ric McCutcheon signed a national letter of intent to wrestle at the Naval Academy. Below is a link to our February story on McCutcheon shortly after he won the state championship.
