LELAND,NC (WWAY) — Former North Brunswick Scorpion Owen Spencer is projected to be a mid to late round draft pick in this week’s NFL Draft. That’s not too shabby for the Leland resident whose just a few credits shy of graduating from NC State University. “I don’t have any idea on what team I might get drafted by,” Spencer said. ” Hopefully 32 NFL teams are looking at me. We’ll just have to wait and see.”

Owen Spencer considers his speed, route running and a winning attitude to be his greatest strengths yet he feels like he still needs to improve his route running because that’s a game of inches. Spencer added the key to sticking around in the NFL if he makes an NFL roster would be staying healthy. “It’s a business,” Spencer said. “They can put someone else in your spot just like that. Staying healthy, learning the playbook and being consistent at all times is very important.”

Last season at NC State the 6’2″ receiver earned 2nd Team All-ACC honors. He led the Wolfpack with 60 receptions and 912 yards. At the NC State pro day last month in Raleigh Spencer ran a 4.52 in the 40 yard dash.
