WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Hundreds of uninsured people from around the Cape Fear can get dental care free this weekend thanks to the Missions of Mercy Dental Clinic.

Dentists joined students from UNC Wilmington’s pre-dental club to check out patients, take X-rays and do cleanings, fillings and extractions. Oral surgeons are also available for more serious issues. There’s also a pharmacy set up.

Patient William East said he cannot afford dental care because he’s on a fixed income, but his grandkids are his motivation to get help.

“I want to be around for it, and good dental hygiene is part of good health,” East said. “It’s a nice day to be out, and the people at the church are just great.”

The free dental clinic continues tomorrow from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. That’s on South College Road in Wilmington.
