DURHAM, NC (AP) – The Secretary of Education is coming to
Durham to highlight efforts to turn around low-performing schools.
Arne (ARN’-ee) Duncan is scheduled to visit the Durham
Performance Learning Center on Monday, along with U.S. Sen. Kay
Hagan and U.S. Rep. David Price.
The learning center is a nontraditional public high school that
allows students to take classes online and participate in
Duncan will visit a math class and meet with faculty and staff
to discuss the best ways to improve performance in schools.
Hagan also plans to discuss the introduction of legislation
aimed at helping lagging schools catch up.
The Democrat is part of a group of senators pushing for changes
in federal education law.
