WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A flipped tractor-trailer tied up traffic from I-140 to I-40 in New Hanover County this morning.

The truck was carrying a metal turbine weighing 58,000 pounds. It ended up in a ditch next to the overturned semi.

Investigators said that speed and the heavy load around the tight turn on the off-ramp caused the semi to tilt over and lose its cargo.

“All I know, I loaded in the port and come out, and the trailer started acting up, so I come around that curve there about 40 miles an hour and look back and saw the wheel leaving the ground,” truck driver Simon Carter said.

No one was hurt in the accident.

The ramp from I-140 to I-40 West is back open to traffic.
