WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A day after New Hanover County Sheriff’s deputies say they solved a murder, Wilmington Police are looking for another killer.

Laterriar Richardson was inside Club 609 at 4418 Market Street with her sister when she says everything started going downhill.

“Everybody was throwing up their gang signs, Crips and Bloods,” Richardson said. “So I was just telling my sister, ‘Something is about to happen. We should go.'”

Richardson says people started rushing outside into the parking lot, and that’s when she heard gun shots.

“Scared isn’t even the word,” Richardson said. “We ran. Beer, liquor was just falling all over us. We didn’t even care. We were ducking behind cars while people were shooting.”

Wilmington Police were called out to the nightclub around 2 a.m. Officers say when they got there, a large group was gathered outside.

Officers say a man who looked to be in his twenties had been shot. He was pronounced dead at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Police say another man had been stabbed and was transported by EMS for treatment.

Richardson says it was her friend Robert McGrudder who was stabbed.

“I saw Robert holding himself,” Richardson said. “He had blood all over his shirt.”

Club violence is nothing new to Wilmington. This is the second death outside of a club in the Port City this year. In January, 19-year-old Taaron Jones was killed outside of the Rhino Club on Market Street downtown. Police say Jones was a five-star general in the ii street gang.

Richardon says the worst part about the shooting is that someone was left without a son on Mother’s Day.

“When I went home last night, I just hugged my mama and told her I loved her so much, because that could’ve been anybody,” Richardson said. “They weren’t thinking about everybody that was around them. That could’ve been me out there.”

Police say the investigation continues. They have not released either of the victims’ names.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Wilmington Police Department at (910) 343-3600. Information may be submitted anonymously through Text-A-Tip. Enter Tip708 and the information, and send to 274637 (CRIMES).

There is only one thing the ABC Commission should do.

Suspend the liquor permit pending a full and complete investigation.

Make it permanent if the owners can not show, beyond a reasonable doubt, that the establishment in no way contributed to the death and stabbing.

Second incident, permanent ban on liquor license for that operator and at that location.

I understand your point and downtown is quite fine during the daylight hours, but this incident happened at Kerr and Market Street in that “establishment” that has had about 12 names in 10 years.

Downtown Wilmington is sooo bad in my mind that I would never consider having a business dinner, social dinner or evening at any venue down there anymore. We stopped shopping down there, we even stopped supporting the arts and sponsored festivals. Hey, everyone that we know has also dropped out of the “QUAINT” downtown facade.

Our money, spends ANYWHERE and we prefer spending our money in areas of this city/county where the business owners understand us as big buck consumers and don’t encourage “gang bangers” and “wilding” high school and college aged adolescents to ruin our enjoyment.

We all consider downtown Wilmington Urban Blight and most of my friends agree that it is in the EYE of the Bullseye of the Concentric Zone. There may be some “pseudo” gentrification along the riverfront and the north corridor, but all the people that I know REGRET wanting to live in OUR downtown, citing parking problems, vandalism to the homeowners cars, vomit, screaming at all hours of the night, drunks, homelessness run rampent, and bars, bars and more and more bars.

Who needs it? Who wants it? Kids? whatever!

We used to be downtown ALL of the time. We NOW choose to go downtown NONE of the time and steer our summer crowds AWAY…for their own vacationing enjoyment. And, it is so much prettier anywhere else in Wilmington.

I wish the Historical Society “elite” would wise up and let a REAL facelift take place. Knock down the UGGGGLY buildings and Re-do. No one “gets” why the historical “elitists” want to keep the UUUUUUUGGGGY buildings in the commercial district. We understand the Historical homes significance, but everyone agrees that it looks like the ghetto, and the behavior of the crowds seem to be complying!

Elitist, you must be sooo proud of making business owners keep the buildings dark, drab and Ugly.

You know what Just another Guest the young man who was stabbed was trying to break up a fight. He is in no way, form or fashion in a gang. He is a college student with a job, so before you go spouting off about things you know nothing of, get all the information.

Really? I’m sure these two are more upstanding young members of our society. Here comes another facebook page to “boo” or “d” or whoever, telling us he was a great guy and NEVER participated in gangs, and his friends and family have always condemned the violence – Right. This club absorbed the crowd from the downtown club when it was shut down, so the violence, garbage, and gangs just flow to the next place, and will continue to move.

Its similar to urban sprawl, but as they shoot or stab each other and the clubs close, they just spread outwards, like cancer.

Someone has already put one up. I’m not re-posting the link because I have no idea of the circumstances of this homicide.

The gang-allowing clubs should be charged with allowing this kind of thing to flourish. Since 1999, I have moved farther and farther away from downtown. This club is about 30 blocks from downtown and it appears to be just like “Ray’s Boom Boom Room” and many other rat traps around the city.

Though I am sad when any crime like this occurs for the poor family members who did care for this individual, the city is to blame for this. They must and I repeat must stop any new clubs, bars or other places like this club from opening.

There are plenty of self-respecting places that sell alcohol. However, there are triple the amount of those that shoul be closed immediatley. If you look back at the past months history of our homicides you will see most of them came as a result of a night club argument gone mobile-ghetto.

Saturday nights at Club 609 are Hip-hop nights. Clearly the beats were poppin.

…start some serious parenting when they are babies, try to keep the baby daddy around for a little cohesiveness in a “family” lifestyle, your little babies would have more sense than to go into a gang encrusted mud pit and get shot. We ALL know what we are doing, when we are doing it and why. A little decision making and going over the consequences goes a long way in letting us live beyond our twenties!

good riddance…..

That shopping center is nothing but trouble. Leave Elizabeth’s Pizza and Capt. Bills Behind it, but tear the rest down.

More low life thugs. They’re getting worse. It’s only a matter of time before all of us fall victim to these low life’s. Be careful an stay safe. They’re out to get ya at any cost. So sad.

…if you look at his FB tribute page, there are no “B.I.P.” or “C.I.P.” quotes mentioned in his honor (not that this proves or disproves anything). Maybe, just maybe this young man was truly an innocent victim out trying to have a good time. So many times I see posters ready to assume that because he was a black male in his early twenties that he was representing a street gang or looking for trouble. Can we please reserve judgement until all the facts are in?

After all, if you don’t care about your kids getting killed and won’t do anything to stop it, why should I wear out my keyboard and waste my time?

People’s thought processes, however, intrigue me and yours seems to have a large gap at the end.

I understand your point about the stabbing victim being an innocent bystander, but have to ask a rather hard-hitting question: If he was a college student with a job, thus indicating intelligence and a work ethic greater than the average patron of Club 609, WHY ON EARTH WOULD HE EVEN BE AT THIS SWINE-PIT?

Did he think that it was a nice, peaceful, wholesome atmosphere to meet the potential Ms. Right?

Moral of the story – if you go swimming in an alligator infested swamp, don’t be surprised when you get bitten by an alligator.

I don’t need facts. Here are the facts: No good college kid, with a set of values would be caught dead in that place.
He almost was. Get It??

I know where that ‘joint’ is now. When the story broke, early on MOTHER’S Day, the local media were stating that there was “another murder” in a downtown club.

I couldn’t place the club downtown, but knowing how the ‘fly by night’ so called “clubs” come and go, I did not doubt that it could be RIGHT next to the one that had the murder occur on the sidewalk outside it’s establishment recently.

Too recent for comfort for anyone but downtown gangbangers!
