WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A day after New Hanover County Sheriff’s deputies say they solved a murder, Wilmington Police are looking for another killer.
Laterriar Richardson was inside Club 609 at 4418 Market Street with her sister when she says everything started going downhill.
“Everybody was throwing up their gang signs, Crips and Bloods,” Richardson said. “So I was just telling my sister, ‘Something is about to happen. We should go.'”
Richardson says people started rushing outside into the parking lot, and that’s when she heard gun shots.
“Scared isn’t even the word,” Richardson said. “We ran. Beer, liquor was just falling all over us. We didn’t even care. We were ducking behind cars while people were shooting.”
Wilmington Police were called out to the nightclub around 2 a.m. Officers say when they got there, a large group was gathered outside.
Officers say a man who looked to be in his twenties had been shot. He was pronounced dead at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Police say another man had been stabbed and was transported by EMS for treatment.
Richardson says it was her friend Robert McGrudder who was stabbed.
“I saw Robert holding himself,” Richardson said. “He had blood all over his shirt.”
Club violence is nothing new to Wilmington. This is the second death outside of a club in the Port City this year. In January, 19-year-old Taaron Jones was killed outside of the Rhino Club on Market Street downtown. Police say Jones was a five-star general in the ii street gang.
Richardon says the worst part about the shooting is that someone was left without a son on Mother’s Day.
“When I went home last night, I just hugged my mama and told her I loved her so much, because that could’ve been anybody,” Richardson said. “They weren’t thinking about everybody that was around them. That could’ve been me out there.”
Police say the investigation continues. They have not released either of the victims’ names.
